St. Scholastica’s Academy of Marikina

Our History

Tracing the journey of St. Scholastica’s Academy through faith and excellence since 1961.

Founding and Early Years (1961)

St. Scholastica’s Academy of Marikina was founded in 1961 by the Missionary Benedictine Sisters of Tutzing in response to the appeal of St. Scholastica’s College Manila alumnae from Marikina and nearby cities. With the support of Mr. Jose Tuason Sr., the school’s first buildings were constructed under the guidance of Sister Silvana, OSB, Architect Imelda Borromeo Cancio, and Engineer Ben Abastillas. Classes opened on June 5, 1961, with 62 pupils, and the school was blessed by Cardinal Rufino J. Santos on August 15, 1961.

Growth and Expansion (1960s–1980s)

The Academy steadily expanded its academic programs and facilities. Until 1985, it offered kindergarten classes that also admitted boys. With dedication to Benedictine values, SSAM became a leading institution for young women in Marikina, known for its academic excellence and strong spiritual formation.

Recent Developments (1990s–Present)

In recent decades, St. Scholastica’s Academy of Marikina has continued to evolve, integrating modern technology, educational innovations, and holistic programs. As a PAASCU-accredited institution and proud member of CEAP and the Association of Benedictine Schools, SSAM remains committed to forming women of prayer, work, and service — faithful to its motto, Ora et Labora.
