As a personnel officer I prefer not to call it a job but rather a responsibility. I am responsible to oversee the management of the service personnel as integrated with the total corporate function of the school. The responsibility entrusted to me demands that I have the knowledge and skills to perform the different functional operations in managing the human resources (office staff and general services). I try my best to see to it that the service personnel are provided with the needed
formation through seminars/inputs in current issues and trends in the practice of their work.
From being a teacher to an administrator Not a big deal really. The only difference is that I don't have to compute grades, get inside a classroom and deliver a lecture here and there. The key word
is service. Whether you are teaching inside a classroom or administering, it is how you make a difference in glorifying God. I used to tell some of our general service personnel, that even if they are not inside the classroom, they are also teaching in a way. Every time they clean the classrooms, the offices, the corridors, the grounds, they are teaching us to value work. They live out that constant refrain - 'that in all
things, God may be glorified.'
On his plans and projects for the school I have readied a personnel development program good for three years for
them. The development programs covers the following areas: (1) Personal/ professional growth (2) Benedictine integration (3) Psycho-spiritual integration (4) Socio-theological- pastoral integration (5) Revitalization of the spirit. We have calendared our activities already to address some of the areas in our development program. Our great dream is to go to Palawan this coming April. We have made the necessary arrangements to make this dream come true.
Learning experiences Hmmm. One must know how to be both a leader and manager. A cool stance helps. One need not be excitable when things don't seem to be okay. Patience helps when addressing some concerns and issues.
I am happy and quite fulfilled with the service personnel. They are persons of good will and dedication. We are fortunate that we are blessed with a Directress whose brand of leadership is very uplifting, encouraging and disposed to listen
with the ear of the heart.
