THE SILENT SOPRANO
Some members of the Media Bureau Club responded to the invitation to watch the musical play, “Silent Soprano” offered by Dulaang UP at the AFP Theater, Camp Aguinaldo at 7-9pm. The story revolves around Margie a domestic helper in Hongkong striving to earn money for her family back in the Philippines. She works for Ricky, a famous songwriter along with her friend, Aling Chika. The play was surprisingly witty and hilarious, which makes it more interesting. The actor’s voices were phenomenal and were like professionals. The director made sure that this play would be different from all others. He made it entertaining and unconventional. Young people like Margie have dreams they long to follow and make real .Once they achieve it, they tend to lose themselves in the process. One of the lessons we must learn from Margie is to hold on to our identities and remain the way we are even during success. Margie accepted the “transformation” into the Chinese Mei-mei just to help her family but her love for her race, of being a Filipino and to be who she really is triumphed in the end. In general, the students enjoyed the play. Paying P150.00 is more than what they got and learned. “ Miss, it’s worth it”, they exclaimed.
