Inspirational Talk on the occasion of the PTA Board’s Induction of Officers

Aug. 19, 2008

St. Scholastica’s Academy  Marikina

My dear  PTA Board officers, first let me congratulate you for having been elected the officers of the PTA Board. Leadership today       is crucial for it seems that we are deplete with good and righteous leaders. What we need is righteous leadership Righteous leadership is something that leaders today don’t bother about. Righteous leadership is the result of a continuous spiritual development. It is an outflow of a prayer life that is founded on a heightened awareness of the presence of God in ones life. It is a  product of a constant monitoring of ones conscience that we may not allow our conscience to be compromised with rationalizations and reasons; that it may not be confused between good and evil for what is good is good and what is evil is evil. As decision makers, it is important that our conscience is founded on the common good..

Righteous leadership is characterized by kindness, gentleness, compassion and humility. We must accept kindness as well as be able to give it to others. Compassion will prevent us from being legalistic, judgemental and fault finder. Gentleness will prevent us from being rough in language and behaviour. It will teach us to handle people with gentleness so that we do not break the reed but allow it to bloom. Humility will prevent us from being condescending in dealing and relating with people we work with and relate with. It reminds us that we are all children of God made into his likeness and image and therefore we possess a dignity by being a child of God. We may know all the skills of management but we are nothing without love. Love is the foundation of a righteous leader. If you have love….it will flow through your words, action, and behaviour just as Jesus’ words and deeds were founded on love.

In line with our theme on proclaiming the Gospel values in the school of the Lord’s Service., I challenge you to be proclaimers of the  Gospel values through your good example of leadership in the PTA Board. St. Benedict was a holy man yet he was a very good leader characterized by a righteous leadership.

That in all things, God may be glorified!
