Manilakbayan II 2016

St. Scholastica’s Academy Marikina Grade School Department heeds to the call of indigenous communities in Mindanao who have travelled to Manila. S. Alexis Lamarroza OSB, principal, together with Mrs. Catalina Tungol, the GS Campus Minister and Mrs. Jennifer Medina, the Student Activity Coordinator, delivered donations of food items (rice, noodles, canned goods, biscuits, milk, Milo,  coffee) on Sunday, October 16 despite the heavy rains brought about by Typhoon Karen. Scholasticans offered these donations during the celebration of St. Benedict’s Feast Day.

Some 1600 minorities are currently staying at the University of the Philippines, Diliman Campus until October 30 where they were warmly welcomed by Chancellor Mike Tan. They are lobbying for theirs right to self-determination and protesting for the continuing militarization of their ancestral lands. They are also demanding justice for the murder anti-mining leader, Secretary General Jimmy Saypan.

The donations were received by Sec – Gen Minda Dalinan of Kahugpungan ng mga Lumad sa Halayong Habagatang Mindanao (KALUHHAMIN –SOCSARGEN) and Mr. Domingo Azores of Command SOCSARGEN, together with other minorities.
