ADMISSION OF NEW STUDENTS

ST. SCHOLASTICA’S ACADEMY MARIKINA admits students who are Catholics and whose academic records indicate ability to do quality schoolwork and possess character traits that give promise to be active participants in the Scholastican Community. Thus, the Committee on Admission deliberate on the academic requirements presented, result of written examinations given by the Student Development Center and the interview with the Principal and/or Academic Coordinator (for high school applicants) and Life Mentor (for the grade school applicant).  
All students seeking admission, whether coming from sister schools or others and/or returning as former students who have enrolled elsewhere during the school year, are required to take the Entrance Test – ORAL and WRITTEN. Successful applicants are admitted on a FIRST-COME-FIRST-SERVED basis.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS AND PROCEDURES FOR KINDERGARTEN,
GRADE SCHOOL AND JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL

All documents required for submission must be arranged in the order as listed below in a legal size (8 ½ x 14 in.) folder.

1.  Three (3) pieces of recent 2”x 2”colored ID picture with complete name tag

2.  Original and photocopy of birth certificate and baptismal certificate

3.  Original and photocopy of current report card with the following conditions:


For Kindergarten 1:

Not required

For Kindergarten 2 and Grade 1:

1st Quarter Grades

For other grade levels:

1st and 2nd Quarter Grades


Conduct Grade: 

B+, S or 85%

Academic Average:

82% for the Grade School

 

83% for the Junior High School


Note: 

No failing grade in any subject and in any quarter for Grades 1-9.

 

For letter grades, please indicate the numerical equivalent.


For Kindergarten 1  - no formal education required (submit only the birth certificate and baptismal certificate)  

For Kindergarten 2  - must  have  finished  at  least  one  year  formal education  

For Grade 1 -  must  have  finished  Kindergarten 2, Preparatory or its equivalent


4. Letter of Recommendation and Good Moral Character coming from any of the following: Principal, Class Adviser and/ or Guidance Counselor with the official seal of the school and enclosed in a sealed   envelope with signature across the flap.
5. For Grade 5 to Junior High School applicant, an accomplished SSAM Guidance Recommendation Form to be filled out by the Class Adviser or Guidance Counselor. The said form may be downloaded from www.ssam.edu.ph.

7. The APPLICANT must be ROMAN CATHOLIC as well as the PARENTS. 
8. APPLICATION/TESTING FEE: Php 400.00
9. ADMISSION TIME: 


7:00  AM -   3:00 PM (Monday-Friday)  

8:00  AM - 11:00 AM (Saturday) 


10.  The applicant fills out the SSAM Application Form. (See www.ssam.edu.ph for the downloadable forms.)    
11.  After the documents have been evaluated, the applicant is scheduled for interview and testing.
12.  Please inquire personally about the test result from the Registrar’s Office. Come on the scheduled   date of release. No inquiries by phone will be entertained. If you cannot come personally, please send an adult representative with authorization letter to claim result.

13. Test results are given to parents four (4) days after the examination. Test papers are never given out for inspection.
14.  Enrollment immediately follows after the release of test results.  
15.  Parents are required to attend the orientation on specified dates.

Note: Report Card with Final Ratings, and Transcript of Records or Form 137 must be submitted immediately after enrollment.

All documents required for submission must be arranged in the order as listed below in a legal size (8 ½ x 14 in.) folder.

5. The applicant must be a ROMAN CATHOLIC as well as the parents.

6. Letter of Recommendation and Certificate of Good Moral Character coming from any of the following: Principal, Class Adviser and/ or Guidance Counselor with the official seal of the school and enclosed in a sealed envelope with signature across the flap.

8. Submit the accomplished forms to the Registrar’s Office together with the other requirements.

9. After the documents have been evaluated, the applicant is scheduled for interview and testing.

10. Pay the non-refundable amount of Php 500.00 application and testing fee at the Business Office.

SSAM SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM AND FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

OBJECTIVE

To assist deserving students to set foot in St. Scholastica’s Academy Marikina, and have access to quality Benedictine education.

TYPES OF SCHOLARSHIP and FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

1. Tulong Dunong – a scholarship given to an applicant recommended by Ateneo De Manila Screening Committee, who is poor and deserving, and has passed the SSAM requirements for admission.  

2. SSAM Discount in Tuition Fee – a scholarship given to an applicant who graduated Valedictorian or Salutatorian in Grade Six from SSAM or from other schools, and has passed the SSAM requirements for admission.

3. SSAMHS  Academic Scholarship  – a scholarship grant that is offered to incoming Grade Eight students of SSAM who will meet the academic and conduct requirements based from the year-end average rating indicated in the report card of the previous school year (Grade Seven), and not a recipient of any scholarship/benefit.

4.  SSAM Financial Assistance  – is given to a deserving applicant who cannot afford to pay the full tuition fee.  She is given a discount depending on the financial capability of the parents to pay, and subject to the approval of the School Directress (for enrolled students only).

5. Tuition Subsidy under the Education Service Contracting (ESC) – is a scheme under the Government Assistance to Students and Teachers in Private Education (GASTPE) wherein the government subsidizes the tuition fee of students who want to pursue secondary schooling in private schools. It is jointly implemented by DepEd and the Fund for Assistance to Private Education (FAPE). It shall start at Grade 7 and will cover four (4) years of Junior High School.

Note: The difference between the ESC grant and SSAM’s total school fees is shouldered by the grantee.

COMMITTEE

- Tulong Dunong Scholarship and SSAM Discount in Tuition Fee committee is composed of the Registrar, High School Principal/Academic Coordinator, Head of the Student Development Center, and the Directress. The Registrar will gather the necessary papers to be presented and evaluated by the committee.  A background investigation is a must.

- SSAMHS Academic Scholarship committee is composed of the Registrar, High School 
Principal/Academic Coordinator with the approval of the Directress. 

- The committee for SSAM Financial Assistance is composed of the School Treasurer (who will interview the parent/s), Grade School Principal, High School Principal, Head of the Student Development Center and Registrar. The application is subject to the approval of the Directress.

- The ESC Screening Committee is chaired by the High School Principal and assisted by the Registrar, Academic Coordinator, President of the Faculty Association and a representative from the faculty. The committee screens and prepares each applicant’s profile as basis for selection.

Note: (Not applicable for ESC and SHS Voucher Program)

1. Applications   are   processed   on a First-come First-served basis.   Application forms are available at the Registrar’s Office. The application form and other documents must be submitted on or before the deadline set.
2.  A student can only avail of one type of scholarship at a time.
3.  SSAM is under no obligation to grant scholarship or financial assistance to any pupil/student. 
                                                                                                                                                                                    
TULONG DUNONG SCHOLARSHIP         
         

CRITERIA
The applicant:
-  must be a graduate from a public Grade School
-  must be recommended by Ateneo de Manila Tulong Dunong Screening Committee
-  must have an average grade of 85%, and no grade lower than 83% in any subject, in any quarter.                                                                  
-  must have an average conduct grade of B+ or 85% and no grade lower than B+ in any criterion, in any quarter.
-  must pass all the SSAM requirements for admission 
-  must submit parent/s’ Income Tax Return or Affidavit of Non-Filing of Income Tax  Return.  

GENERAL PROCEDURE FOR ENTRY 

All requirements will be submitted to the Registrar for assessment. Acceptance of applicants will depend on the approval of the committee, in consultation with the Directress.
Requirements: 
- 3 pcs. 2” x 2” ID picture, colored, with complete name tag 
- Original and photocopy of recent report card 
- Original and photocopy of baptismal and birth certificate 
- Parent/s’ Income Tax Returns or Affidavit of Non-Filing of Income Tax Return/s
- Accomplished SSAM forms 
- Recommendation Letters (1 from the previous school, 1 SSAM Guidance         
Recommendation form) 
- Home visitation for background investigation
- Interview 
- Written examination  

CONDITIONS FOR MAINTAINING THE TULONG DUNONG SCHOLARSHIP

-   Must maintain a yearly general average of 82%, no grade below 80% in any     
subject, in any quarter, and in the final grade.   
-   Must exhibit an exemplary behavior, and must not have a conduct grade lower than 
B+ in any criterion, in any quarter.
-  Those who cannot keep the academic and conduct requirements will be informed of 
the termination of the grant at the end of the school year.
-  The grant shall be on a yearly basis.
                                                                                                
SSAM DISCOUNT IN TUITION FEE FOR VALEDICTORIAN & SALUTATORIAN
CRITERIA
 
The applicant:
-  must be a Roman Catholic as well as the parents
-  must have graduated Valedictorian or Salutatorian in Grade Six (from SSAM, or from 
other schools).
-  must undergo and pass the screening for new students

GENERAL PROCEDURE FOR ENTRY 

Requirements:
- Parent/s’ application letter for scholarship
- 3 pcs.  2” x 2” ID picture, colored, with complete name tag 
- Original and photocopy of recent report card 
- Original and photocopy of baptismal and birth certificate 
- Certificate of Graduation Honor from the Grade School Principal 
- Accomplished SSAM forms 
- Recommendation Letters (1 from the previous school, 1 SSAM Guidance         
Recommendation form) 
- Interview 
- Written examination  

BENEFITS
Valedictorian - 100% discount in tuition fee for one school year (10 students)
Salutatorian  -  50% discount in tuition fee for one school year   (5 students)
Book allowance of Php1,500.00 for one school year, to be given upon enrollment. 
                                                
SSAMHS ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIP
CRITERIA 
The applicant:

  • must be an incoming Grade Eight student from St. Scholastica’s Academy Marikina
  • must be in the top three  in Grade Seven at the end of the previous school year.
  • must not have a grade lower than 92% in CLE and 90% in other subjects every quarter, and must have a final rating of not lower than 92% in all subjects every end of the school year.
  • must have an average conduct grade of A or A- every quarter, and no conduct grade lower than A- in any criterion, in any quarter, every school year.
  • must be actively involved in extra and co-curricular activities, with an ECA grade of not lower than 90% every quarter, and afinal rating of 92% every end of the school year.
  • must not be a recipient of any scholarship/benefit.

Requirements:

CONDITIONS FOR MAINTAINING THE SSAM ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIP

To keep the scholarship until Grade Ten, the applicant:
- must be in the top three of the grade level every end of the school year.
- must not have a grade lower than 92% in CLE and 90% in other subjects every quarter, and must have a final rating of not lower than 92% in all subjects every end of the school year.
- must have an average conduct grade of A or A- every quarter, and no conduct grade lower than A- in any criterion, in any quarter, every school year.
- must be actively involved in extra and co-curricular activities, with an ECA grade of not lower than 90% every quarter, and a final rating of 92% every end of the school year.
- must not be a recipient of any scholarship/benefit.
- Those who cannot keep the academic and conduct requirements will be informed of the termination of the scholarship at the end of the school year.
The scholarship shall be on a yearly basis.

BENEFITS

Top 1 – 100% discount in tuition fee, renewable every school year
Top 2 –   75% discount in tuition fee, renewable every school year

SSAM FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE
CRITERIA 

The applicant:
-  must be a legitimate student of SSAM
-  must have an average grade of 83%, and no grade lower than 80% in any subject, in  any quarter.
-  must have an average conduct grade of A- or 90% and no grade lower than A- in any  criterion, in any quarter.
-  must present a proof that parent/s cannot afford to pay the full tuition fee.
Monthly income of parent/s must not exceed Php15,000.00 as shown in the Income  
Tax Return or Affidavit of Non-Filing of Income Tax Return.

GENERAL PROCEDURE FOR ENTRY
  
Requirements:

-  Submit a letter stating the reason for applying financial assistance to the School  Treasurer. 
-  Original and photocopy of recent report card
-  Recommendation letter from the Grade School/High School Principal
-  Interview (School Treasurer)
-  Parent/s’ Income Tax Returns or Affidavit of Non –Filing of  Income Tax Return/s
-  Background check

CONDITIONS FOR MAINTAINING FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE
 

-   Must maintain a yearly general average of 83%, no grade below 80% in any subject  in the final grade, and with no failing grade in any subject during the school year.
-   Must exhibit an exemplary behavior, and must not have a conduct grade lower than  A- in any criterion, in any quarter.
-   An applicant with a sibling currently enjoying or has enjoyed financial assistance in  the past is automatically disqualified.
-  The scholarship is on a yearly basis.

BENEFIT

- The applicant is given a discount in tuition fee depending on the financial capability of parent/s to pay. 

EDUCATION SERVICE CONTRACTING (ESC)

Requirements:

Parents prepare and submit the following documents:

  1. Accomplished ESCF01-01 (Student Application for ESC Participation)
  2. 1 copy of recent 1x1 ID Photo
  3. Letter of application addressed to the High School Principal
  4. Certificate of Employment and Compensation (if parent/guardian is employed)
  5. Latest Income Tax Return of Parents/Legal Guardian or Certification of Tax Exemption or Municipal Certification of Unemployment
  6. Certificate of Enrolment of other children who are studying at SSAM (if any)

Note: The ESCF01-01 may be secured from the Registrar.

CONDITIONS FOR MAINTAINING THE FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

The grantee is expected to:

  • abide by the rules and regulations of the school;
  • comply with the school requirements and try to finish the course for each school year with seriousness and dedication; and
  • consult the school authorities on problems relative to the fulfillment of the terms of the contract.

The parents are expected to:

  • attend/participate in school activities;
  • abide by the rules and regulations of the school;
  • assist their children/ward to finish the course every year level; and
  • help their children/ward to prevent truancy and/or absenteeism.


Procedure and Requirements for ESC Application

  1. Fill out the ESC application form then submit to the Registrar’s Office together with the other requirements enumerated below.
  2. Write a letter of intent to the High School Principal.
    The letter of application should state the name of the child/student, number of siblings/dependents, monthly income, other sources of income (if any), and reason/s why applying for a government subsidy.
  3. Any proof of financial means of both parents, guardian, or the person who is helping send the student to school as shown in the table below:
